Find out about the diversity of the Island from the interior salt lakes which are occasionally pink to the amazing coastal Bays along the northern side of the Island. From our base in the Settlement, our tour glides around the Settlement past the historical jail and cottages before heading up to Bathurst Lighthouse. We pass through the bathing bays then through into the centre of the Island exploring the salt lakes and natural woodlands. Our guides will make the history of the Island fun and enthralling with stories of the settlement’s intriguing past, as well as the latest developments on the Island. There will be time to stop to buy a drink or snack at Geordie Bay and to take photos!
Highlights include:
Travel through the relaxed Settlement area of the Island before enjoying the magical vistas from Bathurst Lighthouse. There are picture perfect turquoise waters and white sandy beaches along the northern coastline. We pass the glamping accommodation of Discovery Park and Pinkies Beach before stumbling across the most visited bay on the Island, The Basin. The protected and pristine waters here are perfect for snorkeling and swimming and attracts most visitors to the island. We meander along the coastal beachside paths of Longreach Bay to Geordie Bay where there is time to enjoy a drink at the café before heading out to explore the holiday cottages of the area and limestone sandy beaches of several bays such as Little Parakeet Bay. We then head inland where the history of the salt mining by the original settlers brings a whole different perspective to the island. This is where the lakes and woodlands can surprise you with remnants of fossils, abundant wildlife and spectacular flora such as the Samphire bush. Here the colour of the lakes can vary from brilliant white through to an amazing pink at certain times of the year. We depart the interior to the open area of the Causeway back into the Settlement and arrive at the departure point.
There are so many photo opportunities on this tour you won’t believe! We have a relaxed pace so we can stop, observe and take in the diversity of the island.
